Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Fans can expect discovering which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
